The Best Way To Get More Movement In Your Life

how to get in daily movement

Week 3 of No More Weight Loss Resolution

Welcome to the part of the No More Weight Loss Resolution where we start changing how you approach fitness and your workouts. This can be a really fun week, and a bit of a heart-to-heart you might need to have with yourself.

We’re changing all fitness, workouts, and exercise to Movement. Why? Because you most likely have a very specific view of what a workout is, and in order for you to move forward, we need to ditch that view.

I’m not saying it’s wrong, not at all! But there may be some things that are stopping you from being able to change things up when you need to. And that’s what we’re going to focus on this week.

Check out the No More Weight Loss Resolution Plan for the full 6 week plan

This week will also be different as we’ll be working on a meditation or visualization to help you create the change you’re looking for (stick with me here!) and give you some fun projects to work on. Again, sticking with the Experimental Mindset throughout all of this.

If you need a reminder of what we did last week, check out Week 2.

So let’s dive in!

You Current Beliefs About Exercise

It’s time to have that heart-to-heart with yourself here. What do you currently believe about exercise?

  • Does it have to be hard?
  • Does it have to be at a gym?
  • Does it need to be over an hour long?
  • Can it be done outside, or inside only?
  • Do walks count as exercise?
  • Are games or sports exercise?
  • If you could do anything for fitness, what would it be?

If you struggle with getting your workouts in, get bored easily with your routine, or just don’t want to workout, it may be simply because you’re viewing exercise wrong.

Check out What Counts as Exercise? A Better Way To Think About Movement

Try, even now, to change exercise to movement. What comes to mind as options?
I think of things like:

  • Walks down the street with my boyfriend
  • Bike ride to the library
  • Boxing in the garage
  • 20 minute workout with a single dumbbell
  • Pickleball with my mom
  • Jumping on my rebounder
  • Taking a fitness class
  • Doing a 10-15 minute stretching video
  • Walking around some thrift stores with my sister and her daughter
  • Moving furniture for a friend
  • Check out all the food at the State Fair

The ideas are endless when you take your preconceived notions of fitness and exercise you created and the world around you told you to be true.

And I bet you can find a few more things that would be more exciting for you to do each week than the boring routine you’re forcing yourself to do.

Guided Meditation: Meet Your Future Self

I’ll be honest, for most meditations I do, I can never ground or calm myself or empty my mind. Even ones I’ve walked clients through, I could never do successfully.

But I still believe they’re really powerful to help you create the life you want. So what I’m going to do instead is walk you through my own future visualization, and then give you a way to create your own to look back on throughout our time together.

I’ve found reading through my own future dreams this way, helped it seem more real and found ways to create it sooner than I thought.

But how we’re going to do this is by looking back at your goals and writing a few sentences about each AS IF you’re currently living in that reality.

So, what’s it like to wake up every day and not stress about the changes you’re trying so hard to create now?

What’s it like to eat the foods you want without question AND feel good about it?

What’s it like to move daily in the way you want AND look forward to it?

What’s it like to do a hobby each day AND have plenty of time for other things too?
What’s it actually like to live your life and not feel like you have to keep starting over?

Once you have it written down, I want you to read through it each morning for the rest of our time together. This is something called Scripting I’ve found, but a little bit of my take on it.

Don’t stress about trying to take action on it, just read through it, get excited about living in that reality now, and go about your day.

Linking Movement to Happiness

Most of us view exercise as punishment. Whether it was for school sports, if you messed up and had to run shuttles, you gained weight and had to do more cardio to lose it, or you hurt something and needed to follow a specific plan to rehab it.

I won’t lie, fitness has a bad wrap for a reason. But that’s more circumstantial than reality, and we’re going to change it.

What if fitness was fun? What if MOVEMENT brought you happiness rather than stress and pressure?

This week I want you to find fun ways to move.

Whether that’s trying out a workout class you’ve been wanting to, or taking a chance on a workout class you never thought of!

It could also be trying a new sport for fun, like me playing pickleball with my mom.

I also challenge you, if you’re used to never taking a day off from the gym, to take the whole week off from the gym! I do this every few months, not only for my body to truly rest, but to also ask myself what sounds fun now?
Every season I usually want to do something different and new. But if I stick with the same old routine month after month without question, then of course I’m going to get bored then frustrated with myself for not staying consistent.

So what would make you happy?

Exploring Fun and New Forms Of Exercise

Like I said, this week we’re going to explore different forms of fitness, and you can even start here on the blog!

I’ve got blog posts about Boxing for Beginners, Running for Non-Runners, 20 Minute Workout Ideas, even a Full Body Gym Program.

But if that doesn’t sound fun, then I want you to get creative!

Check out my favorite Fitness Crafts and Games for some ideas to get started

The goal this week is to have fun with movement again. Learn to play like when you were a kid and just moved because you had things to do and places to go. Learn to look at movement in as many ways as possible and make a list of things you’d like to try.

And if you get stuck, ask your future self what she’d like to do.

Is she stressed about moving every day, or is she looking forward to it? Based on the life you’d like to live, what helps her live it each day?
And start adding that in.

And that’s it for Week 3 of the No More Weight Loss Resolution Challenge!
Keep your eyes peeled for next week and be sure to join the Diary where I’ll be sending you everything right to your inbox.

Now go have some fun!
